This qualification reflects the role of builders, site managers and managers of small to mediumsized building businesses who apply knowledge of structural principles, codes, standards and legal requirements to Class 1 and 10, to a maximum of two storeys and Class 2 to 9 Type C constructions, and who plan and supervise safe building and construction work, prepare and administer contracts, and who apply quality principles to building and construction projects.

Building relates to construction and Site Management is about managing the factors around construction, such as the deployment of crews with specialised skills (including builders), product compliance, deployment of contract specialised skills, weather and site location.

Training Package Requirements

The volume of learning for the qualification is 700 hours. This comprises of: • Learning Hours- 336 hours (248 hours of theory training and 88 hours of practical training) • Assessment Hours- 304 hours (212 hours of theory assessment and 92 hours of practical assessment) • Independent Study, work on assignment & research- 60 hours
All assessments of units of competency will be conducted according to the assessment guidelines and competency standards of the official Training Package for this qualification. Assessment methods include Practical demonstrations, Projects, Knowledge Tests etc.

Course Duration

44 weeks (32 weeks delivery + 12 weeks holidays)

This will be delivered over 44 weeks of course duration including 32 weeks delivery plus 12 weeks holidays. Students are required to attend a minimum of 20 scheduled course contact hours per week.

Mode of Delivery

Face to face in a classroom, with practical training at ITI’s workshop with access to a simulated environment for a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Notes: All face‐to‐face classroom delivery is conducted within the relevant ITI’s campus allocated classrooms.
Face to face simulated training and assessment activities within the ITI training facilities using the allocated simulation room/area.
Simulated environment includes relevant and appropriate resources, documentation, and equipment typical of an industry workplace and environment.
Students are required to undertake supervised and unsupervised study and activities for this course conducted off campus

Career Outcomes

Re-Assessment

All students will be given an opportunity for re-assessment. Each student has three (3) attempts to achieve a competent outcome, including two re-submission attempts. Student will only work on the component(s) of the Task(s) that were marked “Not Satisfactory”. The re-assessment must be completed within the specified time frame provided by the trainer/assessor after assessment feedback given to the student by trainer/assessor. Please note that ITI will provide two (2) chances for re-assessment at no cost.

If student is not able to achieve competency with these opportunities, student is required to repeat the unit at own cost which will also impact on student’s extension of study period.

In case of practical tasks like role-playing, student has to redo the task by arranging the time and date with trainer/assessor.

Reasonable Adjustments

In line with Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015, ITI will follow its Reasonable Adjustments Policy and Procedures for students who require a reasonable adjustment made to their training and assessment tasks for Units of Competency within this qualification to cater for their specific needs. This process will be communicated to all students prior to their enrolment, at orientation, in their Student Handbook and as well as in Assessment tools.

Satisfactory Course Progress

Student must maintain satisfactory course progress. At a minimum, successfully completing or demonstrating competency in more than 50% of the course requirements in a given study period is considered to be satisfactory course progress. If academic progress falls below 50% for two consecutive terms, ITI will report student to the Department of Home Affairs for not achieving satisfactory course progress. Risk interventions will be implemented on ongoing basis to identify the students at risk and will organise a student support plan

The areas in which a student may appeal a decision made by institute may include (but is not limited to):
