Aims and Outcomes: The course is aimed at enhancing technical, trade, and management skills and knowledge in building professionals. Candidates undertaking this course shall achieve:

  • Skills and knowledge essential for tender documentation, structural principles, cost estimations, hiring of contracts, and building project management
  • Monitor costing systems on building and construction projects
  • Selecting contractors, supervising the work and its quality, and managing construction work
  • Taking overall responsibility for completing the construction of a building and managing project quality and risk
This course prepares candidates enhance professional skills and knowledge.
Licensing/Regulatory Information: The Diploma of Building and Construction (CPC50220) is designed for experienced tradesmen who want to attain formal licensing or registration as a building professional; or already have a license but wish to enhance their skills and knowledge. The builder may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the State or Territory. Builder licensing varies across States and Territories and additional requirements to attainment of this qualification may be required.

Total Duration: 52 weeks (40 weeks study + 12 weeks break)

Weekly Schedule: Minimum 20 hours of scheduled classroom and workshop time

Entry Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old at course commencement
  • Completion of Year 12 (or equivalent overseas)
  • English Proficiency:
    • IELTS 6.0 or equivalent
    • IELTS 5.5 with 10 weeks ELICOS or 5.0 with 20 weeks ELICOS
    • OR completed previous VET courses in Australia
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Must complete LLN (Language, Literacy & Numeracy) test
