This qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services; either in residential, home or community based enviornments. Workers will take responsibiltity for their own outputs within defined organisation guidelines and maintain quality service delivery through the development, facilitation and review of individualised service planning and delivery.

Course Structure & Information

Training Package Requirement

As part of this course students will also be required to undertake practical activities related to the course content. The practical delivery will occur in the simulated work environmnet at the RTO's site.

Completing placement is complusory, and you are required to complete 120 hours of placement to satisfy this component of your qualification. It is your responsibility as the student to secure a suitable work placement for the required hours.

Prerequisite

Workers may be required to demonstrate leadership and have limited responsibility for the organization and quantity and quality of outputs of others within limited parameters. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the assessment requiremnts of units of competency.

I.T.I has the following admission requirements:
Students must be 18 years or older

Student must undertake a Language, literacy and numeracy test prior to enrolment. To gain entry in this course, studnets must have been determined as having the appropriate LLN capability.

This program has been designed to delivered through classroom based delivery and students must have the ability to attend the scheduled sessions as per the timetable. Students are to be informed of the timetable prior to enrolment and are to maintain the required student contact hours

All students must provide a current Police Check prior to the work placement component of the course.

Student must be prepared to follow industyr dress code standards for the work placement component of the course.

Students must have access to a camera/ mobile phone camera.

Course Duration

52 weeks including 3 weeks break and 4 weeks of practical placement.

Face‐to‐Face: workplace training, simulated or mixture of a modes (blended learning)

Delivery Methods

CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual support is delivered face to face (class based). Learners will be assessed through questioning, projects, case scenarios, research and observation in the workplace. Practical work placement of 120 hours forms part of the course.

Entry Requirements

International Students entering this course at ITI must meet the following entry requirements:

Age Requirement:
All international students must be at least 18 years old at the time of course application.

English Language Requirement:
Have obtained an IELTS band score of at least 5.5 – or equivalent; or 5.0 where the test score is combined with at least 10 weeks ELICOS or 4.5 where the test score is combined with at least 20 weeks.

Have completed a Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level Training Package Qualification in Australia; or,

Have completed any Certificate III or Certificate IV in ESL or EAL from the ESL/EAL Framework (VIC).

Have completed the ELICOS Course: General English – Intermediate Level

Academic Requirement:

All international students must have completed Satisfactory completion of Senior secondary school certificate (Year 12 or its equivalent) overseas qualification.

LLN

ITI will review all enrolment applications to ensure entry requirements are being met prior to acceptance into a course. As part of the enrolment process students are required to complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) test to ensure that the student has the ability to complete the course. This test will occur prior to course commencement and will be assessed by an authorised ITI qualified Trainer/Assessor.

Language literacy and numeracy support:

Learners will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment upon enrolment to determine their suitability for this course and to identify if additional and support is required. LLN needs of students will be taken into consideration in the delivery and assessment of this qualification. ITI uses the Australian Core Skills Framework to identify and describe an individual’s performance in any of the core skills (learning, reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy (at a point in time), so that training can be targeted to areas of need and an individual’s progress monitored over time.

A Unique Student Identifier (USI):

In addition, students, will need to provide RTO with their Unique Student Identifier number. A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a reference number made up of numbers and letters, unique to each student. This USI allows them to link their previous and future VET qualifications into a single authenticated transcript, through the National Vocational Education and Training Data Collection, and prevents them from losing their record. This lets them see all their training results, from all their previous providers. A USI Number will stay with the student for life and must be recorded with any nationally recognized VET course they undertake.

All overseas students entering this qualification must have an English Language proficiency level of one of the below:
  • IELTS band score of 5.5 (Academic or general version) or equivalent internationally recognised exam result, or
  • IELTS band score of 5.0 (Academic or general version) and then, Satisfactory completion of ELICOS or ESL up to 20 weeks at upper intermediate level or
  • Upper Intermediate (General English) or higher certificate from a CRICOS registered English language training provider
  • In the 2 years before commencing the course, has completed secondary studies equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification from an English language speaking country.
  • In the 2 years before commencing the course, has completed, in Australia and in the English language, either the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or a substantial component of a course leading to a qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework at the Certificate III or higher level.

Reasonable Adjustments

In line with Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015, ITI will follow its Reasonable Adjustments Policy and Procedures for students who require a reasonable adjustment made to their training and assessment tasks for Units of Competency within this qualification to cater for their specific needs. This process will be communicated to all students prior to their enrolment, at orientation, in their Student Handbook and as well as in Assessment tools.

Satisfactory Course Progress

Student must maintain satisfactory course progress. At a minimum, successfully completing or demonstrating competency in more than 50% of the course requirements in a given study period is considered to be satisfactory course progress. If academic progress falls below 50% for two consecutive terms, ITI will report student to the Department of Home Affairs for not achieving satisfactory course progress. Risk interventions will be implemented on ongoing basis to identify the students at risk and will organise a student support plan

A possible training after completing the certification, individuals may undertake further studies in CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support or CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support. Employment outcomes may include the following role:

Credit Transfer

ITI will initiate the credit transfer process for a verified certificate or statement of results provided.

If credits apply the overall duration will alter and a schedule of exemptions provided.

Recognition of prior learning (RPL)

If the recognition is valid, the overall duration of the study may change, and a list of exceptions may apply. For any further information on any Policy and procedure please refer to the website/handbook.

Appeals

The areas in which a student may appeal a decision made by institute may include (but is not limited to):

Assessment decisions and outcomes, deferral, suspension or cancellation decisions made in relation to a student’s enrolment, or any other conclusion/decision that is made after a complaint has been dealt with by institute in the first instance.
