BAS Agent Qualification - required Units of Competence
In order to become a registered BAS agent, individual applicants must satisfy certain qualifications and experience requirements, which are set out in the Tax Agent Services Regulations 2009 (TASR). These include:
- a primary qualification of at least Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or Accounting
- GST/BAS course - there are a number of approved courses one of which is training in the following units provided by a Registered Training Organisation:
- FNSBKG404 Carry Out Business Activity and Instalment Activity Statement Tasks
- FNSBKG405 Establish and Maintain a Payroll System
- Relevant experience
Other conditions apply including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the Board. Full details of these requirements can be found here.
There are no prerequisites in order to undertake this course, however it is recommended that students have basic computer knowledge and skills.

Assessment includes combinations of practical projects, practical assessments, case studies and scenarios, written knowledge questions, examinations and presentations.

Accounts Clerk, Accounts Receivable & Payable Clerk, General Bookkeeper, Data Entry Operator, General Clerk, Office Administrator, Administration Manager, Payroll officer, Payroll Manager, Bas Agent, contract bookkeeper.
